Celebrity Fashion

When it comes to explaining celebrity fashion, it is very difficult to come up with any single answer as to why it is very popular. A variety of people love to look and dress like celebrities for various reasons. Essentially, there is the sense of idealism of celebrities - they are living the life the rest of us only dream about. Celebrities are like an alter ego; we wish we could be as beautiful & famous as them.

However, there is the downside to being very popular and well known. Lots of celebrities can't leave their homes without being recognized and followed by the paparazzi everywhere they go. It appears to be the price of fame. But, there are a lot of "everyday" people who wish they had a fan base following and were as famous as their favorite star. Runway Fashion

I've been working with runway models for just over six years. From all the hustle and bustle back stage I got to learn a lot of fun and unexpected fashion tips and tricks from my model friends. These are quick fixes for a fashion emergency.

Slip Proof Heels
Runway models often have to wear crazy shoes that usually do not fit their actual size. To ensure a safe walk that will prevent the ankle bender on the runway, models will often pat the bottom of the heels with a paper towel soaked in soda, so when it dries, the bottom of the shoe becomes a little sticky, hence preventing the slippery cow move on the runway. I've also seen models scratch the bottom of the heel with a key or a knife; this makes ridges that help to prevent slipping as well. Stuffing shoes and heels is big thing in runway fashion. Your shoe is too big? Stuff it with some tissue, either in back or front, until you feel more secure in the shoe. Some models bring little inserts that keep their feet from slipping forward when wearing heels. You can get those in any shoe store or drugstores.

Bloat Free Stomach
Runway models often have to bare more skin then the average woman. Since they never know when their midriff is going to be on display, they have some tricks for a flatter and bloat free stomach. Papaya supplements or fresh papaya fruit is popular among the models to help prevent water retention and bloating. Named " fruit of the angels" by Christopher Columbus, papaya contains papain that helps to digest protein as well as reduce swelling, bloating, gas, acid reflux and indigestion.

Zit Zapper
Nothing could be a bigger bummer then getting a zit the morning of an event or the day before. Because models have to be camera ready at all times, they have a trick for zapping the annoying break out. Take of a couple of ibuprofen and crush it to a white powder. You can mix this powder with toothpaste or water and set it on the break out. The ibuprofen is an anti-inflammatory drug that helps to reduce swelling and redness. A girlfriend of mine is a runway model and she always carries a little container of crushed advil at all times as an emergency zit zapper. You can also buy packets of aspirin powder and mix with water or toothpaste, see what works best for your skin.

Beauty, styling, editorial shoots and fashion shows have been my life for over 10 years. Far beyond keeping up with the trends, it's a process of improving your level of self-esteem and confidence. I specialize in helping you dress for your body type so you too can look stylish and feminine. In the recent past I've worked closely with Michael Costello and Mila Hermanovski form Project Runway, Mickey Coffman from The Real L Word, top model Saleisha Stowers, L.A models, the top modeling agency in Los Angeles and many more. I've helped my closest friends widen their fashion sense and now I want to do the same for you

Fashion Jobs Nyc

Kristin Dahl got her start in the fashion industry by working as a retail manager at the Limited and from there, her passion for fashion led her to New York City, where she eventually became an Sales Account Executive at hot brands like Magaschoni and Laundry.

After 12 years of working in wholesale, Kristin decided that she was ready to start 2 things: a family and a business of her own! Because she spent over a decade establishing herself in the fashion industry, Kristin was able to leverage her contact list from being an Account Executive to start a home-based sample sale business. Her business took off in her suburban New Jersey neighborhood and before she knew it, clients were asking Kristin for styling consultations, along with tons of requests for closet makeovers and personal shopping trips.

I had the opportunity to ask Kristin a few questions about her personal shopping business and thought I'd share them with you.

Krista Carter, Dream Fashion Jobs:
Can you describe what a typical day is like as a personal shopper for us?

Kristin Dahl, Personal Shopper and Sample Sale Queen:
Usually, I send emails to prospective clients, search retail and fashion blogs for updates and head out to closet makeovers or a personal shopping appointment. I hold sample sale events and during fall and spring, the business is very hot. I might have 2-3 sample sales in one week, which also requires me to make sure the clothing is hung and ticketed properly prior to the sale.

Mens Fashion

One of the great things about men's fashion is that while trends come and go, such as the polyester suit of the 70s and the punk look of the 80s, it always seems to gravitate back towards a clean and masculine look. 2011 has definitely brought a major resurgence of this classic appearance. In both high fashion and catalog spreads, you'll see men dressed in flattering styles and natural fabrics. The grunge look of the 90s is out, and the well-groomed clean cut appearance of an earlier era has made a comeback. Along these lines, here are 3 of my favorite trends in men's fashion coming up for fall of 2011.

Colored denim- We have a tendency to always think of denim as meaning "blue jeans." But colored denim is a great trend for fall, and a nice way to dress up your normal denim look. Now it's accepted that you can wear white jeans, even after Labor Day. Just anchor them with darker pieces, such as gray or brown shoes and belt, and a navy sport jacket. Gray jeans are a terrific look for fall. You can pair them with other cool tones, such as a blue and white striped shirt, camel suede shoes, and a blue denim jacket for a nice, calming look. Or for something a little bolder, try yellow-gold denim pants. Just remember that this is a bright color, and the rest of your outfit should remain in neutral shades, such as tans or navy blues.

"Mad Men" inspired fashion- Since the television show "Mad Men" became raucously popular, several different clothing companies have introduced tailored and form-fitting lines inspired by the pre-hippie era of the early 1960s. I am personally looking forward to Banana Republic's "Mad Men" inspired men's line that will be introduced this fall. The reason this particular line works so well is that it offers a bit of an updated twist on classic, retro looks. This is the very key to looking appropriate, not like you are wearing a costume, when emulating vintage fashion. Key pieces to pulling off the "Mad Men" inspired look are slim cut suits, shawl-collared sweaters, slim cut pin stripe trousers, vests, and waist coats. If you are attending a formal event, a classic black silk bow tie is key, and for everyday wear, a nice silk tie with necktie accessoriesis appropriate.

Casual dressy looks- What do I mean by "causal dressy"? Well, it differs from what you think of as straight-up dressy. For a casual dressy look, start with a casual foundation. This could be a pair of relaxed fit chinos and a polo shirt or silk screened cotton tee shirt. Then, add an element that you would normally only think of as dressy, such as a well fitted sport jacket. For another casual dressy look, try a pair of dark wash jeans and a button down shirt with the vest from your three piece suit. Or, black denim pants with a plain white tee shirt and a tuxedo jacket. You can also make any casual outfit more dressy with an interesting accessory such as an antique pocket watch or a nice pair of leather oxford shoes. Celebrities who regularly and successfully pull off the casual dressy look are Kanye West, Ryan Gosling, Justin Timberlake, and Pharell Williams. Just don't ever mix a blazer or sport jacket with shorts when going for the casual dressy look.

Fashion Trends

Statement Jewelry; it's 2011, but you should know that it's not going anywhere anytime soon. People want to stand out in an affordable way, and the fact of the matter is that it's a great way to do so. As an alternative, you can also mix the unexpected with the expected when wearing fashion jewelry necklaces, fashion jewelry bracelets, and fashion jewelry rings. Big and bold still seems to be more than a fashion trend with chunky necklaces that beg the drama. This is easily achieved with beaded jewelry necklaces and heavy metal necklaces with a smooth or textured surface that accentuates the neckline.

Costume jewelry has come a long way since the common prepackaged sets that you may have purchased in the past. Some pieces are huge contenders against even some fine jewelry that is sold in jewelry stores. What you want to remember is to remain original. Unique vintage pieces can also show your sense of style. Also, motif jewelry, think elephants, coins, and snakes, will be popular for the upcoming warm weather months. Not only will it make you feel like you're on an island oasis vacation, but you'll look like it too.

A couple of instant coffee granules miss the cup as they often do first thing in the morning. With slow sleepy swipes, I mop them up while I wait for the kettle to boil. If I've managed to convey the right number of coffee granules from the coffee jar to my mug, and added precisely the right amount of sugar, milk and hot water, then it will be a good cup of coffee. But if I don't get ratio exactly right, it's yuck, which goes to show that there's an art to making a decent cup of java. Or is there? An art to making coffee, I mean.

The question of what constitutes "Art" with a capital T has been around for a long time. People pretty much agree that making a good cup of coffee is not an art but there is still a lot of dissent about certain modes of expression like writing, movie making and fashion. There is the idea that fashion cannot be an art because it evolved from sewing and tailoring which is a craft even though tailoring has been referred to as "architecture" and the draping of fabric across the body as being "sculptural". Many designers make references to art and artistic theories and concepts in their work yet are nevertheless relegated to the ranks of the frivolous where haute couture is viewed as the fetish of the financially well-to-do. And once haute couture and runway collections have been watered down for consumption by the general public then they are seen as nothing more than financial commodities and functional apparel in the marketplace.
